PARADOX: A true statement that leads to a contradiction or situation that defines intuition. The Paradox is that we all live in the present time always. The past exists only to keep us out of present time and therefore become vulnerable to attack, be it in a fighting situation or business dealings. It is that ‘CURVE BAL’ life sometimes throws us. If you are in the present, you have the ability to see what is happening and therefore able to address whatever attack or circumstance may come your way. Paradox Martial Arts is an experience in learning and applying concepts of all the fighting arts, both empty hand and with weapons. A person may be exceptionally dangerous with his empty hand, but add a twelve inch blade or stick, the entire scenario changes. We teach a combination of defenses and attacks with weapons and empty hands. The weapons referred, include but are not limited to, the type which would normally come to mind, such as the sword, sticks and knives of the Malaysian Arts. We advocate the use of whatever you have at your disposal, such as a scarf, keys, coins, newspaper, the list is exhaustive. We teach the theoretical, physical and social components of each art. What we teach cannot be taught in a normal dojo setting. What we teach you cannot be taught anywhere else. We do not award belts. Only certificates reflecting the level of proficiency exhibited by the student. John Doty, Founder of Paradox Martial Arts began studying martial arts in 1963 under the direct tutelage of Mr. Ed Parker, Founder of American Kenpo Karate. It is there where he met, who was to be his SiFu and great friend in later life, Larry Hartsell. John then became to know Sigung Bruce Lee and Guro Dan Inosanto. John holds a Black Belt in Kenpo, is a Full Instructor under SiFu Larry Hartsell in Jun Fan Gung Fu and a Full Instructor under SiFu Paul Vunack, in Jeet Kune Do and Kali. John has studied at the Inosanto Academy for over 12 years and while at the Inosanto Academy decided to specialize utilizing the concepts of SiFu Larry Hartsell and Sifu Vunak. John has also studied with SiFu Burton Richardson and Professor June Castro. He Served in the United States Air Force as a Security Policeman during the Viet-Nam War.
